Dragon Group invests in new spinning unit

Dragon Group, a leading manufacturer of acrylic sweaters is on an expansion spree and is adding a spanking new spinning plant to its existing infrastructure of three sweater factories, one spinning mill and one dyeing unit.
The spinning plant which has been set up in Comilla has 18,000 spindles and the capacity to produce around 11 tons of acrylic yarn per day. The company has invested Taka 30 crore behind setting up the plant.
Fibre2fashion spoke to Mostafa Q Sobhan, Managing Director of Dragon Group who said that, “We have invested about US $4.5 million in our new spinning project which is under construction and will be operational by the end of this year”.
He added by saying, “We are projecting additional production of 25,000 lbs in addition to our existing spinning capacity of 20,000 lbs. So our total yarn production from beginning of 2010 will be about 45000 lbs acrylic yarn”.
“This will be exclusively for the consumption of our sweater manufacturing factories which employs about 8,000 people and our monthly sweater export volumes are about 800,000 pieces on average”, he replied by saying.
“The expansion will also enable the Dragon Group to reduce the cost of raw materials by about 15 percent, which will help it maintain its position as the most competitive sweater supplier from Bangladesh”, he concluded by saying.
