The News South Wales (NSW) province had recently released a tender for furnishing railway coaches under a multi million dollar contract for upgrading railway coaches, which has been won by a UK based textile manufacturer.

The Transport Minister of NSW, David Campbell and NSW railway company Rail Corp had promised to complete an independent cost analysis of the Australian-made Instyle wool product against moquette and jacquard fabrics.

A domestic wool manufacturer which also had the support of Australian Wool Innovation has alleged that nothing was followed up and its products never even reached the comparative stage and the contract was awarded to a UK based company.

The Managing Director of Instyle, which was competing for the contract said that, this contract was very important for the textile sector and could have proved to be a valuable contract, for a sector, which has been facing difficult times.

He even alleged that the fabric supplied by the UK based manufacturer would contain New Zealand or South African sourced coarse wool and not Australian fine wool as stated by officials of Rail Corp.

He said that Rail Corp did not take in to consideration the Australian textile workers, wool sector and the environment in to consideration while awarding the contract to a UK based company.
