FDDI provides training to ICL-Robusta

Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) provided training on testing of safety footwear as per latest safety footwear norms ISO 20344-347: 2004 to ICL -Robusta, Sri Lanka.

ICL Robusta is a joint venture project of Industrial Clothings Limited (ICL), Sri Lanka and Calzados Robusta S.L, Spain. The venture is established with the objective of producing high quality safety shoes and uppers in Sri Lanka to cater for international markets, such as the European Union.

On being asked about the development in this regard, Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI said, “Providing of high quality tailor made services is an outcome of FDDI's understanding of customer requirements & striving for customer satisfaction hence, we are able to cater to the requirements of the industry.”

ICL is a Board of Investment (BOI) enterprise established in 1979 in Sri Lanka. At present, ICL has a work force of approximately 900 employees and producing all kinds of gloves, shoe uppers and sleeves exclusively for the global markets.

ICL is part of Midas Safety, an international group, having operations in Canada, Pakistan, India, Middle East China and Sri Lanka. Mr. G Sekar, Operation Manager, ICL Robusta stated, “We learned a great deal from this training programme which will prove to be useful in future also.”

ICL Robusta works closely with its customers to develop hand protection solutions for specific applications through prompt, efficient and comprehensive service.

Mr. Shailendra Saxena, Incharge - Physical Laboratory, FDDI delivered his expertise as lectures, power point presentation, samples and demonstrations. Training was given on lab testing as per latest international norms, setting up lab, and make the trainee understand about the latest norms i.e. ISO 20344-347; 2004.

Mr. Praveen Kumar, Production Manager, ICL Robusta stated, “The two days training programme was successful in providing the inputs which would be a boon for the company.” ICL Robusta is going to make an agreement with FDDI for testing of their products and they will be sending footwear & footwear component on regular basis.

Mr.Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI said that, “This type of training programme takes care of the needs regarding the quality improvement in the products.”
