Artisans from one of the poorest cities of Peru, Huancavelica, can now export their products directly without any intermediary, reported the Regional Director of Foreign Trade, Tourism and Handicraft.
The artisans now have direct contact with the international clients with whom they negotiate prices and quality of the product, and export them directly. The key destinations of the products from Huancavelica are the US, France, and Japan.
Prior to this, artisans used to deliver their products only to the intermediaries, who in turn were taking care of exporting the same and thereby deriving huge profits. This was impacting artisans' income drastically; however, the situation is different today.
The artisans had also been imparted training to add value in their craftwork with the support of some NGOs.
