Bridging Arts to host Knitting & Stitching show

Only two weeks until the Knitting and Stitching Show, Alexandra Palace – and we are very grateful indeed to Twisted Thread for offering us space to showcase the embroidery that we have been creating with Muslim (and non-Muslim) women through the spring and summer. The show runs from 8-11 October. We will also have a selection of British Saris on display – all part of our work with fabric, pattern and women's experience.

If you miss it … we are moving the embroidery to Wandsworth (York Gardens Library, Battersea) in November. It will be there for four weeks and during that time we're launching our new embroidery packs with designs fusing Islamic and British motifs – inspired by the projects. With four workshops led by the Royal School of Needlework. Places will be limited – I will send out details of how to book etc closer to the time.

Also launching in the autumn – I PACKED THIS MYSELF Action Lab. The next step for our travelling suitcase exhibition…. Brilliant news in that we have received funding from the Migration Impact Fund to create an Action Lab to take to groups, looking at the issues faced by migrant workers and host communities. This will be an Educational Resource with a twist – we are creating new suitcases and materials to map journeys (geographical and personal). We can offer a number of free workshops for groups in Cornwall from November.

And the British Sari Story competition…. The last reminder from me this year… Closing date October 31 2009. We are delighted to have RCKC, Asiana Magazine and now Twisted Thread on board as partners – as well as links with the Fashioning Disapora Space project supported by Royal Holloway and the V&A. The first entries have started to come in – and to judge from materials used (fused plastic bags as well as sequins and applique) I think it will be an intriguing year …

And finally a huge thank you to all the volunteers who work so hard on these projects and really help make them a success – from Camborne to Shepherds Bush, Redbridge and Manchester….
