Silk Textile Park to be set up at Kancheepuram

The Textile Ministry was mulling setting up of an integrated textile park exclusively for the silk industry at Kancheepuram, assured Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, Union Textile Minister to an eight-member delegation of the Kancheepuram silk industry, which was led by Mr. P.Viswanathan, MP representing Kancheepuram.

The government has approved to set up 40 textile parks in various parts of the country, while 15 more are in pipeline. 10 out of 40 approved parks are in Maharashtra and seven in Gujarat, six each in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, and four in Rajasthan.

Two textile parks are each in Punjab and West Bengal, and Karnataka. Assam and Madhya Pradesh have one each.

Each park would have 50 units and are intended to provide top-notch infrastructure to the industry in order to meet international environmental and social standards.
