Exports of MMF textiles grow despite adverse conditions

Shri Gupta said that after four quarters of decline, there are some signs of a turnaround and the emergence of 'green shoots' on export scenario, though it was difficult to hazard a guess on the nature and extent of this recovery and the time that the major economies will take to return to their earlier growth
levels.

As per the available port data, the exports of Man-made Fibre Textiles during April-July'09 were US$ 1123 Million (Rs.5515 crores) registering a growth of over 2% (20% in rupee terms) compared to that of the same period of last year. Exports during June and July 2009 of current financial year increased by 7% and 21% respectively compared to that of the same months of the previous year, giving the industry new hopes of recovery.

The SRTEPC Chairman said that the Council had drawn up an exhaustive programme of promotion for the year 2009-10, as part of which the Council organized exclusive Mega Indian Textile Exhibitions in Brazil and Argentina during April 2009, in which members of other Councils also participated. An exclusive Exhibition was also organized in Vietnam during August 2009 with good results. He said that the members of the Council would also be participating in the India Show being held in Russia during early October 2009.

The Council will also be holding exclusive Exhibitions in markets, like Tunisia and Morocco, Kenya and Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, Fiji, Poland, Czech Republic, etc. The Council will also be participating in the Combined Mega Textile Exhibitions in Australia and would take the lead in organizing the Combined Mega Textile Exhibitions in Brazil and Argentina during March 2010. One of the major events during the year will be the Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet being planned in January 2010 involving buyers from Middle East and North Africa. Shri Gupta urged the members of the Council to take advantage of these programmes to increase their exports and that of the country.

The SRTEPC Chairman observed that the membership of the Council had grown steadily during 2008-09 and touched 4245 by 31st March, 2009, a growth of 52% and said that during the current year, the Council would be holding a series of seminars and other programmes in various textile centers across India to increase membership and bring more people to the export field.
