Turkish textile and apparel exporters are expecting the pressures of slowdown to ease in mid-2010, as positive signs, though marginal are visible in global economies across the overseas markets serviced by the industry in Turkey.
Chairman of Mediterranean Ready-Wear and Textile Exporters Association, Mr Tarik Bozbey said that the severity of the slowdown has begun to decline and the negative growth rate in exports from Turkey were much slower than those from other countries.
He noted that export levels have declined by 30 to 60 percent throughout the world but that this figure is between 15 and 30 percent for Turkey. The decrease in exports was greater in some regions of Turkey, while other regions enjoyed a relatively slighter drop.
The biggest sign of recovery was the consumption pattern noticed in the consumption of energy. He said that, energy use had reached its bottom during the initial months of the crisis, but was now, reaching levels, seen in the period, before the crisis exploded last September.
He drew the attention to the contribution of textile and apparel exports form Turkey and said that despite the fact that, automobiles stood first in export revenue, imports from the sector were the highest, while in case of the textile sector; net value added was the highest.
