High level speakers and high-tech hot topics pack symposiums
Educational symposiums focused on the latest innovations including e-textile solutions, medical fabrics, aerospace applications and durable nonwovens; as well as emerging opportunities and potential new markets.

Professional development presentations emphasized "best practices" techniques to strengthen manufacturing operations: improving profitability, safety strategies and thriving in a tough economy.

Green roofs are blooming all across America and one of the most highly attended symposiums was the Sustainable Green Roofs and Landscapes session, sponsored by GSE Lining Technology, Inc. The workshop was free to licensed architects/and landscape architects and outlined the uses of geosynthetic and textile materials for designing sustainable, energy-efficient environments and buildings.

•Bruce Dvorak, ASLA, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, Texas A&M University.
•Glen Schmidt, FASLA, Principal and owner, Schmidt Design Group, Inc.
•Angie Durham, Green Roof Manager, Tecta America Corp., and
•Alan Wingfield, AIA, Product Manager, Colbond, Inc.

Six symposiums in all offered architects the chance to learn about the hottest trends in sustainable design with green roofs, fabric structures and shade structures.

Another one of the "wow factor" symposiums was "Patching Holes in Human Tissue--Current Applications of Textiles in Medicine," which covered such breakthroughs as textiles which are finding their way into our blood vessels, neural system, eyes and even our bones-

•Biotextile developments in surgical therapies--how the selection of particular polymers, fibers, textile structure and finishes contributes to a less invasive surgical procedure and positive patient outcome through faster healing and long-term safety of the biotextile device.
