The new cotton year is off to a smooth start as a whole. Cotton prices are higher than last year, textile production and exports continue to improve, which in turn has created a good demand for cotton in the new season.

The state released another 600,000 tons of cotton reserves, which in the last few months has played an important role in stabilizing the prices as well as markets and protecting the needs of textile enterprises.

Cotton harvesting is going on at full swing, though national production is expected to decline from the previous cotton season, due to the impact of factors like lower acreage and weather factors, which has reduced production.

According to the projection made by China Cotton Association through a survey conducted in September on around 2,049 cotton farmers, national output of cotton was expected to be 6.71 million tons.

This projection is down by 310,000 tons from the August forecast and also down 13.9 percent, when corresponded with that of last year.
