Jute exports gain global spotlight

Jute industry has played an integral role in the development of Bangladesh's economical growth. Initially used as a raw material for making sacks, this fibre sees versatile applications today, starting from handicrafts to technical textiles.

With the advent of synthetic fibres, jute lost its importance with the passage of time. With the growing threat of global warming and awareness among the people to live an environmentally friendly, the fibre has regained its importance.

A surge in the export of jute products has resuscitated the industry. Bangladesh exports both, raw fibers and jute manufactured goods. Export of jute products are approximately 3,00,000 to 4,00,000 tons per annum.

Government of Bangladesh has implemented new policies to focus on the production capacity of jute based products, diversification of the product base and growth of export earnings. Jute industry in Bangladesh is more exposed to the global market conditions and competitive prices.
