Textile & product designer Liora Manné plays with high-tech

Liora Manné's patented Lamontage process of making textiles incorporates permanent antimicrobial protection using SmartSilver™ nanotechnology.
Silver is a natural antimicrobial. All of Liora Manné's Lamontage textiles are embedded with billions of incredibly small silver spheres, called nanoparticles, which provide permanent antimicrobial and anti-odor protection to the product. It does not wash out or wear off, and keeps working as it is designed to work for as long as the product exists. Current Lamontage product lines include rugs, carpeting, carpet tiles, wallcovering, placemats and pillows.
Bacteria, mold, mildew and fungus like to grow in moist environments, and it is at these conditions that the silver nanoparticles release very low levels of silver ions that are lethal to microbes. The silver particles are so small that they are invisible to the human eye and do not change the color or texture of the product. In addition to preventing deterioration, odor and the growth of mildew, tests show that the silver particles reduce static build up in carpeting as well.
Silver's proven efficacy, durability and natural safety make SmartSilver's EPA-registered, Oeko-Tex approved antimicrobial silver additives the ideal choice for control of bacteria in the home and in public spaces. “SmartSilver™ textile additives effectively control bacteria but do so in a way that does not harm the user of the enhanced product,” says Dr. Manfred Wentz, US Director of Oeko-Tex. Additionally, antimicrobials extend the life of the product, reduce the need for harmful chemical cleanings, and sanitize without the energy costs of hot water.
