Global economic meltdown cast its shadow on spot orders at the 20th Batexpo conducted recently from November 5-7, said Mr. Abdus Salam Murshedy, President BGMEA in a press conference held in the office of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association.

This year at Batexpo, the exhibitors received $41.64 million in spot orders from international buyers compared to $55.45 million they had generated last year.

Around 140 international buyers and 2,016 representatives marked their presence in Batexpo this year, whereas in the 19th apparel and textile exposition around 117 international buyers and 3,347 representatives visited the exhibition.

Visit of the buyers from new export markets such as Japan, Russia, Ireland and Brazil was the best part of this year's fair that had been inaugurated by the Prime Minister Ms. Sheikh Hasina.

In addition, buyers from traditional markets like, the US, UK, Canada, Turkey, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, France, Hong Kong, India, Greece, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand and Nepal also visited the fair, wherein around 62 local and international companies exhibited their products at around 86 stalls.
