Registration process of textile sector on track

Registration of textile units is in progress in Pakistan, in which around 4,100 units have filled forms on-line. A three-tier scrutiny system has been evolved by the Ministry of Textile Industry to check the forms forwarded by the associations after verification, said a spokesman of the Ministry.

The Ministry issued provisional certificates to about 300 units and has made final certification of just 30 units, while the remaining forms have been sent back to the associations due to discrepancies. These forms could not be considered even for provisional certification and will have to be submitted again, he informed.

Rs. 10 billion has been made available by the Ministry of Finance, of which Rs 5 billion has already been placed at the disposal of the State Bank of Pakistan to start disbursements and the remaining amount would be allocated, following the complete utilization of this amount.

Ministry held discussions with the associations and individual units at Faisalabad, Lahore and Karachi, wherein the Ministry has received a number of suggestions on the format and substance of the orders and the registration requirements.

Taking these discussions and suggestions into consideration, certain substantial changes have been made in the orders and the registration form.

Besides, the government of Sindh ordered to execute the reimbursement of Social Security contributions to textile units for female and handicapped employees, following the discussions for an agreement on modalities by the Ministry. The Ministry has also received approval for the duty-free import of textile machinery, informed the spokesman.
