President lambasts officials for low cotton crop

In the current cotton season, the crop is not up to levels attained in previous years, due to which the regional administration of Akhal region came in for criticism from the President of the country.
The President was also highly critical of the way machinery and equipment was lying around the fields and lying unattended and exposed to the vagaries of nature. He ordered the administration to be more careful in the future.
Turkmenistan is one of the top ten producers of cotton in the world and its annual output is around one million tons, but due to various reasons the cotton crop is below the mark attained in the previous cotton year.
The President who conducted an aerial survey of the cotton fields lambasted the local and regional officials for the crop failure. According to informed sources the low production is attributed to bad quality of cotton seeds.
