The US share in China's cotton imports drastically dropped in October, while China's imports of low priced cotton from India and Africa countries continued to improve and imports from Australia increased slightly.
October cotton imports from the United States registered 34,600 tons, accounting for 30 percent of China's total imports, a decrease of 14.5 percent compared with September. Imports from India marked 28,700 tons, accounting for 24 percent, up by 5.1 percent from the previous month.
Imports from Australia fetched 15,700 tons, accounting for 13 percent; imports from Burkina Faso, Benin, Mali, Zambia, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and other African countries totaled 22,700 tons, accounting for 28 percent, an increase of 6 percent from the previous month.
From average import prices among major countries, prices from most countries were lower than September. Import prices from the United States and Australia stood at US $1,492 per ton, the highest and price from Pakistan was the lowest at $1,303 per ton and the average price from India was $1,412 per ton, essentially flat with September.
