The British Wool Marketing Board(BWMB) will promote the 'Naturally Green' environmental advantage of British Wool at Domotex 2010 (16-19 January, Hanover).

The recent Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Study completed to ISO 14040 by Leeds University has provided British Wool with valuable credibility and vital information for the industry at a time when many manufacturers are looking to address the environmental status of their products and their business.

The BWMB has attached the LCA to their platinum quality assurance certification, which will allow manufacturers to have the path of their fibre outlined at every stage from wool auction to finished yarn.

“We can guarantee the source of the fibre through the assurance certification system and this will make the LCA a valuable document to manufacturers, particularly in the contract market.” Richard Poole, European Business Manager said.

The BWMB has also recently invested in a 'British Wool Summary of Best Management Practices', which outlines the husbandry, health and standards to which British Wool is produced. This will help manufacturers using British Wool to address the EU Bream legislation and the Leed NSF 140 programme in the USA.

The BWMB operate a business centre style stand for British Wool licensees including merchants, spinners and manufacturers whilst promoting the fibre as the natural, sustainable fibre for carpet.

Mr Poole explained, “Our 'Naturally Green' message is a serious message for industry wanting environmental credibility for their products. We have already introduced our LCA to the trade in the UK and have had a lot of interest. This European launch supported by our new report on Best Management Practices ensures that manufacturers have the data and environmental information they need to address the eco agenda and satisfy the increasingly more specific brief of the contract customer.”
