Milano Unica, a rebirth: simplicity and beauty triumph

The trend presentation of Moda In Milano Unica, the Italian clothing textile industry trade show, took place at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. The panel was conducted by Angelo Uslenghi, well known trend forecaster; Alberto Jelmini, President of Moda In; and Aniello Musella, ICE Executive Director for the USA.

In past seasons, a few isolated voices had considered trend indicators obsolete, but now more than ever their relevance and usefulness has been demonstrated in "directing" stylistic and material selections to fashion designers.

Angelo Uslenghi discussed a new phenomenon that has been detected following the crisis of 2008: a need for a rebirth where more means less. The trend expert sees this rebirth expressed by a new need of a simpler daily life lived with a keen sense of good humor and contentedness.

"The green - echo theme prevails, but technology is never compromised. Years of research and innovation in Italian textiles have satisfied new desires and needs. Fabrics place emphasis on denim, gingham checks, toile and basic jersey. Digital prints with overprinting techniques come to the front. Advanced research benefits the accessories collections," affirmed Angelo Uslenghi.

Milano Unica thanks the Italian Ministry for Economic Development and the Italian Trade Commission of New York for the support to their exhibitors.

"The Italian Trade Commission is always proud to sponsor and support all products bearing the Made in Italy label. In this occasion we continue our commitment to facilitate and advance the relationship and access of Italian products to American designers. To contend against this crisis we will continue to invest in promotions and trend presentations, supporting the quality and craftsmanship of Italian exhibitors within Milano Unica," concluded Aniello Musella, Executive Director of ICE for the USA.
