India accounts for 85% of world handloom fabrics

India is a major handloom producer in world as it has 85 percent contribution in international handloom market, said the State Social Welfare Minister, Mr. P Subash Chandra Bose during the inaugural ceremony of a handloom expo.
The Andhra Pradesh government is introducing policies to encourage handloom weavers in the state and is also taking steps to make it compulsory for all government employees to wear handloom clothes on Saturdays, added Mr. Bose.
AP State Handloom Weavers' Cooperative Society Limited (APSHWCS) is offering 30 percent discount on handloom products to customers on the occasion of Christmas, New Year and Sankranthi, he said.
