Guangxi emerging as world-class cocoon output base

The Guangxi Sericulture Research Institute reports that Guangxi has been vigorously developing sericulture in recent years. In 2000, cocoon production of the region stood at 29,000 tons, ranking seventh among all the provinces and regions in China.
In 2005, Guangxi's production reached 149,000 tons, to seize the first ranking in the country, surpassing Jiangsu province and has stood first ever since then, cocoon production.
The year 2007 created another record high as cocoon output reached 205,000 tons, accounting for 25.9 percent of the country's total output, and 18 percent of the world's production.
Cocoon output from Guangxi province alone has now surpassed that of India, which is the world's second largest silk producer. In short, Guangxi province is emerging as a world-class cocoon production base.
