All Merino skirtings types were in strong demand, with prices rises on all days and a pass-in rate of 2.1%. Crossbred types also did well this week, with gains in their average MPGs across all micron ranges, varying from 3.5% for 26.0 microns to 4.4% for 32 microns. Oddments were very strong, with the average AWEX Merino Cardings MPG up by 42¢ (+6.7%). The average Merino Cardings MPG is now up by 25% since the start of the season.

Buyers for China were very dominant, followed by buyers for India and Taiwan.

Sales will be held in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle next week, when 53,376 bales are currently rostered for sale. Present estimates for the following two sales (Weeks 31 and 32) are 48,450 and 47,500 bales, respectively; a decrease of 2.8% over the three sale period when compared with last year. It would not surprise to see these quantities go up given the rise in this week's market.

In South Africa, the Cape Wools Indicator was up by 4.1% since last sale against a 1.6% appreciation of the Rand against the US Dollar and a 3.2% appreciation against the Euro. 12,455 bales were on offer.
