While addressing a delegation from the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) in Lahore, the President of Pakistan, Mr Zardari said the textile industry has a big potential to earn valuable foreign exchange and vastly improve the balance of payment situation.
He also put across a suggestion to set up task forces for other industrial sectors, compromising of experts, akin to the one set up for the textile sector to identify problems symptomatic to them and suggest ways and means to address them.
He assured the delegation of providing a congenial environment to draw investments as well as for the growth of the textile industry, but the onus for innovative ideas and investment had to come from private entrepreneurs and also suggested them to come out with out-of-box ideas.
The President also referred to his visit to China, wherein the Chinese side offered assistance in developing hybrid seeds of cotton, wheat and rice, the experiments for which were underway and if successful, cotton output would increase manifold.
