Last year, Tajikistan shipped around 86,600 tons of cotton fibre amounted at US $100 million. Along with its main trading partners of cotton, which include Russia, Iran, Turkey and Latvia, it exported cotton fibre to 18 countries.
In the beginning of 2009, the standard price of one ton cotton fibre tumbled down by $144 to $1,150 compared to that of 2008. Reduction in international prices of Tajikistan's cotton took its toll on country's exports, last year.
However, these prices rose by the end of 2009 which gave a slight fillip to exports of the country.
