Germany is the largest manufacturer of textile machinery in general and of technical textiles and nonwovens machinery in particular. For the last 10 to 15 years, nonwovens and industrial fabric applications have been enjoying double-digit growth every year. The overwhelming success of these products is due not only to the constant development of better raw material, but first of all to the success story of the ever-so-sophisticated machinery.

The VDMA Textile Machinery Association represents more than 110 companies. Nearly all member companies of the Association have, among other products, machinery and/or components for the production of technical textiles in their portfolios. Some of them are doing a substantial part of their sales with these technologies. For others, the contribution of this machinery to overall sales is small at the moment, but for them, the objective is clear to increase this share.

India has been one of the top markets for German textile machinery throughout the last years. Although being challenged by Chinese competitors, Germany is still the leading supplier of textile technology to India. 2009 has been an extremely difficult year for the global textile industry. The industry's downturn is reflected in decreasing orders of textile machinery in India and elsewhere.

Nevertheless there is still a big potential in the Indian market that has to be opened. Especially technical textile is a budding area for Indian industry by promising production increases of 11 % per annum until 2013. It was this potential that led VDMA to join forces with FICCI and to organise an event solely dedicated to the topic technical textiles.

The approach of the “The Conference on German Technology for Indian Technical Textiles”, taking place in March is to present technology lectures about innovations that enable textile producers in the region to enhance their position in the technical textiles' market by providing sustainable competitive advantages.

The event is scheduled for 8 and 9 March 2010 in New Delhi at FICCI-Federation House and on 11 -12 March 2010 in Mumbai at Taj President Hote. Smt. Rita Menon, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles has been invited to inaugurate the Symposium on 8th March in New Delhi and on 11th March at Mumbai.

Besides the conference in March the VDMA Textile Machinery Association offers some useful information sources for manufacturers of technical textiles as well as for enterprises that are intending to enter this promising market segment: For example the association's internet sourcing service, which enables an easy search for both products and companies. In addition, it is worthwhile to check the website for special reports on machinery for technical textiles. Interested parties are also welcome to order the new nonwovens machinery buyer's guide edition listing products and suppliers.
