China and India dominate T&C imports

China and India continue to dominate textile and garment exports to Peru. China accounted for 51 percent of all imports from the sector, while India's share stood at 34 percent.

They are followed by imports from US, Taiwan, South Korea and other countries. In total Peru imported US $708 million worth of textiles and clothing in 2009.

Of this, imports of textiles totaled to $450 million and that of clothing and accessories to $257 million. Exports from the sector in the previous year, however took a big hit.

Shipments of textiles and clothing which had reached $2 billion in 2008, plunged to $1.4 billion in 2009, a stupendous fall of 28 percent, mainly to its major market: USA
