Reports have confirmed that the cotton fields in the North Queensland region have been hit by the solenopsis mealybug.
But an agronomist is very optimistic that the region is well prepared to deal with the menace which affected cotton crops particularly in Pakistan and India.
Anne Tuart is of the opinion that once the lifecycle of an insect is understood it is easier to keep them under control and reduce their impact on the cotton crop.
She hopes that the Queensland farmers will be able to adapt to the presence of the mealybug and take appropriate steps to control them.
