While speaking at a recent seminar organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the textile minister, Mr Dayanidhi Maran said that the much-awaited National Fibre Policy (NFP) which is expected to restore the competitiveness of the textile industry will be announced early in the next financial year.
The NFP was earlier scheduled for release in December 2009, is expected to restore and boost the competitiveness of the textile value-chain, beginning right from cotton to yarn, fabrics, clothing, exports etc. It is also expected to set right the anomaly in consumption ratio between man-made fibres and cotton.
He exhorted the textile industry to come out with new ideas rather than coming to the ministry seeking subsidies and incentives and also told them to explore new export markets and reduce dependency on the US and EU markets as they tended to rise and fall at the same time, which could prove to be risky for the exporters.
