Textile exports surge in January, clothing falters

Exports from the textile and apparel sector witnessed positive growth in the month of January 2010, when compared to the same month, a year ago.
Shipment from the sector touched US $15.57 billion in the previous month, up a marginally 2.2 percent, when corresponded with January 2009.
Of these, textile exports surge d to $5.58 billion, up a staggering 18 percent. However shipments of apparels and accessories fell 5 percent to $9.9 billion, from a year ago.
