A two-day international handicrafts and handloom fair which is set to open today, will see the presence of at least 31 international buyers, exporters and business houses, informed an official.

The state government of Orissa is organizing this International Handicraft and Handloom Fair 2010 in Bhubaneswar, which is the state capital. The union commerce ministry is offering financial support to the event.

A buyer-seller meet will also be held as part of this international fair, wherein around 75 handicraft and handloom artisans from the state will exhibit their products, said the official.

Orissa is well-recognized for exquisite handloom and handicraft products and makes up of 125,000 artisans involved in palm leaf writing, patachitra, applique and metal work, and around 400,000 weavers manufacturing a rich range of textures.

Apart from facilitating local artisans to display their products, this fair will help buyers too, to place orders at competitive prices, stated the official.

Moreover, the buyer-seller meet will address the specific needs of the purchaser, and will support manufacturers for sustainable supply chain management, he added.
