Technical Textiles and nonwoven market shares about 25% of consumption of all textiles in volume terms. The average growth till 2012 is predicted at the rate of 4-5% depending on area and application. Study shows that world markets demand will be higher for Geotextiles, Industrial textiles and Building textiles whereas lower growth rate is seen in sectors like Hometextiles and Clothtech textiles.

World end use consumption of Technical Textiles was US $120 billion in 2007-2008 which in volume terms 21 million tons. Experts forecast the consumption by 2012 to be of US $139 billion with volume of 26 million tons.

The drivers for future growth of the industry are expected to stern from Asian countries like India and China. These two countries will not only create a huge demand for technical textiles but also show growth in production at a higher rate.

Asia will be the largest consumer of technical textiles in near future. India is a country where demand for technical textiles is met in 90% by import that gives an enormous opportunity for investors due to lack of sufficient facilities in India.

With the objective of attracting FDI in this growing business together with right technology, which holds immense potential for all investors, ASSOCHAM jointly with Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Government of India is organizing an “International Summit on Technical Textiles: Investment Opportunities in Emerging Indian Market” on March 19-20, 2010 at Hotel Taj Mahal, Mansingh Road, New Delhi.
