MACH2SIG revolutionizes intarsia knitting

SHIMA SEIKI has introduced its new MACH2SIG computerized intarsia shaped knitting machine which, together with improved design system software, revolutionizes multi-color intarsia knitting by increasing productivity in ways never before possible.

MACH2SIG is at the cutting edge of SHIMA SEIKI flat knitting machine technology, full of the latest developments that revolutionize intarsia knitting. Its productivity is unmatched through the combination of several key features:

• Maximum knitting speed is increased to 1.4 m/sec.
• The Rapid Response R2CARRIAGE achieves quicker carriage returns after each course for higher efficiency.
• The maximum number of yarn carriers has increased from 32 to 40, allowing more flexibility during knitting and expanding the range of possible intarsia patterns.
• Optional i-DSCS+DTC Digital Stitch Control System with Intelligence and Dynamic Tension Control improves on SHIMA SEIKI's proven DSCS technology with variable electronic control of yarn tension. This permits high-quality and consistency during high-speed knitting while reducing the chance of yarn breaks.
• WideGauge capability that permits a variety of gauges to be knit on a single machine, allowing the MACH2SIG to play various production roles.
• New Automatic Yarn Carrier Setting software on SDS-ONE apparel design systems that dramatically improve set-up efficiency and diminish leadtimes. Depending on the intarsia pattern, what used to take hours or days to program can now be performed in minutes or even seconds.

Other new features include a yarn gripper and cutter system equipped with a new lint remover for reduced maintenance; a USB interface positioned directly below the control monitor for improved access in data exchange; the network connector has been repositioned to improve access for factory data management with Shima Network Solutions; and improved space efficiency realized by integrating the fabric collection tray within the machine frame.

Quicker setup, improved efficiency and higher productivity of MACH2SIG can shorten leadtimes and production times for achieving quicker turnaround of existing products. More importantly however is its dramatically expanded range of design, color and patterns that permits the designer to further explore unprecedented areas in the world of intarsia knitting, adding to consumer appeal of knitwear as a fashion source and thus contributing to profitability for SHIMA SEIKI customers.

SHIMA SEIKI began shipment of MACH2SIG in January of 2010 and has been exhibiting the machine at private show circuits in various markets worldwide. It has been widely accepted by SHIMA SEIKI customers with great interest and enthusiasm—along with a steady stream of orders for the machines.
