The Punjab government in Pakistan has allocated four-acre land to set up Cotton Ginning Research and Training Institute, informed Mr. Malik Ahmed Ali Aulakh, Punjab Minister for Agriculture. The possession of this land will be relinquished by the agriculture department in around a week, he added.
The Minister was speaking to a delegation from Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA). The Minister has also formed a committee to ensure the supply of quality seeds of cotton to the growers for next season.
The committee, which will be headed by the Director General (Agricultural Research), would also prepare a final report on the availability of the variety of BT cotton seeds in Punjab Seed Corporation as well as in other seed companies.
Moreover, it will assist in resolving growers' issues regarding poor quality cotton seeds in the province.
The minister ordered the entire provincial agriculture department to plan a strategy soon, to impart practical training to the cotton growers. The Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Shahbaz Sharif is taking effective measures to improve cotton production and enhance its quality and ginning standard.
The PCGA delegation pointed that exemplary actions should be taken by the Punjab government against adulterators and producers of low and bad quality pesticides, herbicides and insecticides.
