China's total textile and apparel exports reached US $15.568 billion in January 2010, an increase of 2.2 percent year on year. Among them, textile exports marked $5.581 billion, up 18.2 percent year on year. Exports of apparel and accessories fetched $9.986 billion, down 5 percent year on year.
Data analysis of textile and garment exports in January shows two characteristics.
First, China's textile and garment exports continued to improve; second, from the point of view of export value, textile exports were better than clothing exports.
It is noteworthy to note that the negative impact of the economic crisis on China's textile and garment exports really emerged in February 2009, due to which a slide was witnessed in that month.
But considering the positive trends of the previous few months, exports from the sector in February are expected to show an upside trend compared with the same time of the previous year.
In terms of seasonal changes of textile and garment exports, records reveal that exports in February generally touch the lowest level in any given year. Exports gradually pick up after February.
