The Government of Thailand is planning to make the country emerge as a supplier of raw materials to the whole textile value-chain, spread across the countries of the ASEAN, in order to benefit from the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Along with the ASEAN countries it will also try to exploit and utilize the lower tariffs or tariff waivers and pacts with countries in the Asia-Pacific region like, China, India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

The Export Promotion Department (EPD) is planning to hold road shows in these countries in the second quarter of 2010, to better promote the textile products demanded by each nation and fulfill their requirements.

According to estimates by the Export Promotion Department, clothing and textile shipments are expected to grow between 9 to 13 percent in 2010, reflecting from a recovery in orders from the US, EU and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
