Handicrafts exports from Rajasthan back on track

As the imports from the US - a leading importer of Rajasthani handicraft items, once again start rising, the state's handicraft exporters are euphoric. The total handicrafts exports of the state adds up to about Rs. 100 billion, and every year US solely imports around 50 to 60 percent of the same.

Handicraft exporters of Rajasthan, during the current financial year had been badly hit on account of the global economic crisis, and which resulted in closure of several handicraft units. But now, the situation is getting back to normal.

Indian industry is positive over its expectation that, around Rs. 50 billion worth handicraft items will be exported to US during 2010-11.

Dilip Vaid, Chairman of Federation of Indian Export Organisation, stated that when compared to the previous fiscal, during current financial year, the quantum of exports were less, but that since January the conditions are getting better on account of the positive sentiments of North American markets.

Thus, he was hopeful that, the state's handicraft sector will mark positive moves during 2010-11 fiscal.

He also added that, higher sales figures were recorded during Christmas 2009, when compared with the previous year, which he owed to the recovery in American markets.
