According to State Statistics Bureau, China's cotton production reached 6.4 million tons in the 2009-10 cotton season, down 14.6 percent year on year. The figures released by China Cotton Association for the corresponding period stands at 6.80 million tons.
In February, China's cotton imports were 211,000 tons, representing a decrease of 26.7 percent from January, but 164 percent higher than the same period last year. The average import price marked US $1,721 per ton, up 1.3 percent from the previous month.
February yarn output completed 1.63 million tons, an increase of 10 percent year on year. Export value of textile and apparel amounted to US $12.6 billion in February, an increase of 9.3 percent year on year.
As per reports, China has abundant cotton resources at present, especially in Xinjiang Autonomous Region. As of March 10, 47 percent of Xinjiang cotton is still waiting to be shipped out from the province.
