NSDC appoints Dilip Chenoy as CEO & MD

The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) initiated through the Budget Speech of 2008-09 and formally launched in October 2009 by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Finance Minister of India, is a Public Private Partnership mandated to skill 150 million people by 2022. The NSDC made its first disbursements in February 2010 where funding to the extent of Rs. 45.38 crores was approved which will create 10.5 lakh skilled manpower over the next 10 years.

Today, NSDC announced that its Board of Directors has named Mr. Dilip Chenoy to serve as the Corporation's Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.

Mr. Chenoy has served as Director General, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) since March 2004 where he was responsible for leading a team of professionals and working with members to set the technical (environment & safety), economic and social responsibility agenda for the automobile industry. Prior to his role at SIAM, Mr. Chenoy served with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) since 1986, his last held role being that of Deputy Director General.

Mr. M.V. Subbiah, Chairman, NSDC said that the NSDC Board unanimously selected Mr. Chenoy based on his track record of leading a very vibrant sectoral organization, as well as his ability to understand Industry and Government alike.

On his new role, Mr. Chenoy said, "NSDC presents an enormous opportunity to transform the skill landscape of India and impact the livelihood of millions of people. It's a great honor and I am delighted to be selected as CEO. I am excited about the opportunities and very mindful of the challenges that the Corporation must deal with.

Mr. Chenoy will take up his new duties on 7th May, 2010. The NSDC is a very unique entity, being the first-of-its-kind PPP in the skill development sector globally. Some of the unique focus areas of the NSDC include enabling skilling in the high growth and unorganized sectors; regular updation of skill gap surveys (NSDC has recently concluded its first release of skill gap surveys in 20 high growth sectors and the unorganized sector); creation of a labour market database tool (LMIS) and creating systems for standards and accreditation.

While several proposals are in advanced stages of consideration, NSDC continues to invite proposals. Mr. M.V. Subbiah, Chairman has met large business houses, social entrepreneurs and NGOs to invite participation in the NSDC mission.
