Tunisian leather sector shows signs of recovery

Statistics for the Tunisian leather industry reveal that the sector which was badly hit by the economic crisis with diminishing exports during the whole of 2009 has started recovering significantly, to come out with positive results, during the initial two months of current year.

The figures were validated by the National Centre for Leather and Footwear (CNCC) in its recently published economic report, concerning the impact of the leather and footwear Industries on foreign trade in the initial two months of 2010.

For the first two months of 2010, the sector with exports worth €76.68 million, depicted a growth of 6.4 percent over corresponding period of the previous year.

The exports mainly constituted of products like fancy leather goods which formed 13.9 percent of exports whereas, leather clothing and shoes, each constituted 10 percent and 9.5 percent, respectively, of overall exports.
