The tents are gone and the red carpet is up from the 2010 Charleston Fashion Week,(March 16-20, 2010) but what remains is an even tighter-knit design and fashion community that is determined to solidify Charleston as the fashion capital of the Southeast.

The fourth annual celebration of regional retailers and emerging designers ended Saturday night with an all-out fashion extravaganza and party in Marion Square. This year's CFW winners include Georgia's Larika Page—whose Alexander McQueen-inspired piece solidified her title as the Emerging Designer Competition: Southeast winner—and People's Choice designer Barbara Beach, as well as the event's charitable partners Center for Women, Lowcountry AIDS Services, and MUSC Children's Hospital, for which more than $250K was raised during the Catwalk For Kids benefit.

While some may be experiencing the post-event blues, CFW creative director Ayoka Lucas reflects on Charleston Fashion Week as a renaissance. “Fashion camp may be over, but during the next few months, the success stories will come to light, the contacts made will start to forge business relationships, and the ripple affect of the event will be tangible,” she says. “For many, and not just EDCS winner Larika Page, this is a significant stepping stone for their careers. Bloggers, writers, models, and photographers have all been able to learn and further develop their craft over the last week.”

As for 2010 Emerging Designer Competition: Southeast (EDC:S) winner Larika Page, she says the win represents a new chapter: “Being a part of Charleston Fashion Week was the best experience I have had as an up-and-coming designer! Winning the EDC:S is obviously such a wonderful accomplishment for me, but also just making it to the semifinals provided a huge platform to display my work, and I am grateful for it. It provided the perfect jumpstart for me in chasing my dream!”

The five-night fashion fete also included the debut of the Rock The Runway Model Competition and Saturday's highly successful Bridal Couture show. Special guests for CFW 2010 included Elle magazine's Anne Slowey; designer Cynthia Rowley; Atlanta Falcon Ovie Mughelli; designer Mychael Knight; designer Carmen Marc Valvo; and Project Runway alums Carol Hannah Whitfield, Gordana Gehlhausen, and Logan Nietzel. Performances by DJ Arthur Brothers, violinist Daniel D., and Glam Rock Soul contributed to the celebration with mind-blowing nightly interactive performances.

The fourth annual Charleston Fashion Week, with the support of countless sponsors and supporters, was an overall success. Event organizers will recap highlights and demographic studies in the weeks to come.
