Cotton acreage plunges steeply in Xinjiang

At present, in Xinjiang, spring planting has begun, starting from the south to the north. As of March 30, local crop sowing area in Xinjiang had reached 3.13 million mu (One hectare=15 Chinese Mu), a reduction of 1.33 million mu from the same period last year, or a decrease of 29.8 percent.
Overall process of spring planting and spring irrigation is slower than the previous year, but roughly the same with normal year. As of 30 March, Xinjiang province has planted 24,000 mu of cotton acreage, less 45,000 mu or down 65.2 percent, than a year earlier.
Inputs needed for sowing operations are more than abundant in the current season, than last year, along with which the general situation of land preparation is also better. However, an official from the local agriculture office revealed that, current situation of spring production is complex, as uncertain factors have increased.
