Apr '10
During this season, it is proposed to bring around 115,096 hectares of land area under jute cultivation in 10 districts of the Khulna division, namely Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jessore, Narail, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat. This is to come up as a part of the plan to boost jute cultivation.

Of the total area, it is intended to grow Tossa variety on 114,818 hectares of land, whereas other local brands will be cultivated on the remaining land.

As anticipated by the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), during this season, around 1.2 million bales of jute will be harvested in these districts.

So as to make the jute cultivation programme a success, the required seed, fertilizer, pesticides and other agricultural inputs are being supplied to the farmers. Also, practical training is being imparted to the farmers to create a know-how regarding the latest techniques in jute cultivation.
