Kanyakumari and Mahabalipuram would see the establishment of two handicraft promotion centres soon, informed Mr. Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister for Textiles, during the inaugural ceremony of Gandhi Shilp Bazaar at Valluvar Kottam.

The Tamil Nadu state government has committed to improve the standards of artisans, with the support of Central government. The government will take measures such as offering substantial platforms to the artisans to help them increase their marketing network.

The projected centres at Kanyakumari and Mahabalipuram will help artisans to improve their earnings.

A roster has been released by the Ministry regarding conducting Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, every day in a few cities of the country. This is to market the products developed through the Cluster Development Program and by handicraft artisans.

The award winning handicraft and textile producers of the country would be marketing their creations through Gandhi Shilp Bazaar. This bazaar at the Valluvar Kottam is the foremost bazaar, in a series of the every day bazaar.

At the inaugural function, Mr. Maran distributed tool kits to 150 cluster artisans. These 150 artisans, who have come from various parts of the country, will display their products for the next 10 days.
