Mixing jute & polymer creates substitute for CI sheets

A perfect alternative for corrugated iron sheets, with more features such as heat and rust-resistant, strong and flexible, has been recently developed from jute and polymer by Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).

Moreover, the BAEC claimed the product which has been dubbed as 'Jutin' is light-weight, saline-resistant, durable and with much lower thermal conductivity compared to the widely used metal sheets for rural housing in the country.

One of the BAEC scientists, who developed this product, stated that this development would prove to be a commercial success if its production is undertaken on large scale, either by a state-owned or by Public-Private partnership.

Jutin would outshine the uncomfortable and hazardous CI sheets, if it actually carries all the above properties. This safe product should be preferred and promoted over CI sheets and which could also prove to be beneficial to jute growers. The jute growers have been suffering, since past few decades, from weak government policies, bad management and tough competition from synthetics.

This innovation has encouraged the jute farmers in the country as well as the others in the sector to take efforts for industry's resumption. And such innovative products having much potential ought to have sincere support, say experts.
