After the cotton quotations at the New York futures market had fallen during the week under report and the Euro had strengthened again, local spinners reacted with intensified enquiries. The sales figures improved during the week. Purchases of medium staple cottons focused further on near dates in the second quarter 2010. However, larger contracts were also registered until the entire third quarter. The prices for physical cotton did not follow to the same extend the downtrend of the front trading month in New York because the supply is thinned out in the meantime and replacement at the origins was not possible for the merchants on the prevailing basis. Brisk interest continued to exist for the tighter supply of fine and extra fine cottons, whereof the larger quantities were sold towards Far Eastern markets.
In the Upland range were traded: Central Asian sorts for the 2nd and for the 3rd quarter 2010 and West African types for the same period of time.
From among the fine and extra fine cottons contracts were registered as follows: Egyptian GIZA 88, Israel Pima, and Sudan Barakat - all for prompt respectively for April / May 2010.
