Alyssa Medeiros wins NTA Bronze Medal

The National Textile Association is pleased to announce that Alyssa Medeiros, a full time senior student at UMass Dartmouth, will be awarded the NTA Bronze Medal for 2010. She will be graduating in May with a degree in Materials and Biomaterials Engineering from the Materials and Textiles Department. Her current cumulative GPA of 3.84.

Ms. Medeiros reports she plans is to continue her education in hopes of becoming a PhD. Graduate with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. She first chose this career path in the eight grade, and unlike most children who change their minds several times throughout middle school and high school, she has remained focus and excited about this selection.

Along with attending college, she works as a dance teacher at a local dance studio. She reports that she began dancing at the young age of two and a half and it has been a large part of her life since then, saying, "It taught me about commitment, dedication, and inspiration."

She works two other jobs as well: as a waitress and as a Lab Assistant at the ATMC (UMD Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Center). According to Ms. Medeiros, "Being a full time student with three jobs is challenging and definitely requires time management ability. I look forward to my future and hope that by continuing to be highly motivated and focused I will be able to achieve my goal of one day becoming a R&D Biomedical Engineer with a PhD."
