At its press conference, the Swiss Textile Federation reviewed the performance of the textile and garments industry in the financial year 2009. Max R. Hungerbühler, the Federation Chairman, outlined the past record, present situation and prospects of the Swiss textile industry to the gathering in the Blumenhalle in Zurich.

Some 45 participants from the branch, including 19 journalists, noted the results reported by our industry which were not always strong. The substantial decline in imports and exports was clearly reflected in the figures for added value created by the branch which fell by 4.1% to CHF 1.29 billion.

However, there is certainly room for some optimism. According to the “European Innovation Guide” published in March 2010, Switzerland is the country with the best performance when it comes to innovation. The presentations which followed the statements made by Max R. Hungerbühler clearly reflected this fact. Members of the Textile Federation made short reports on their successes with the new “Swiss Organic Fabrics” collective brand and products manufactured on the “Cradle-to-Cradle principle”.
