Chinese chemical fiber production reached 2.48 million tons in March 2010, while it registered 6.86 millions in the first quarter of 2010, an increase of 20 percent year on year, according to Statistics Centre of China Textile Industry Association,

Among them, production of synthetic fibers fetched 2.24 million tons in March 2010, compared with 1.76 million tons in February, while in the first quarter, synthetic fibers production totaled to 6.14 million tons, an increase of 17.94 percent year on year.

Textile demand has gradually picked up since the second half of 2009, due to which, China's chemical fiber production has increased significantly. The demand for synthetic fibers is increasing as they are priced lower when compared with natural fibers.

As technology advances, performance of fabrics based on synthetic fibers will improve vastly in clothing and along with characteristics of easy-washing and quick-drying, demand of fabrics based on synthetic fibers is expected to further expand.

According to the recently published report on world market of synthetic fibers by a US research firm (Global Industry Analysts), world demand of synthetic fibers is projected to exceed 49 million tons by 2015.

The report goes on to say that, China will maintain high growth in synthetic fiber production and consumption and over a period of time and China will exclusively dominate world market of synthetic fibers.
