US displaces India as biggest cotton exporter to China

From amongst countries exporting cotton to China, the United States, surpassed India and regained its place as the biggest exporter of the white gold in April. The proportion of Uzbekistan cotton slightly increased and those from the African region rose highly.

In April, China's cotton imports from the United States registered 130,000 tons, up 13.8 percent from the previous month, accounting for 40.1 percent of total imports. Imports from India marked 106,000 tons, down 18.8 percent from the previous month, accounting for 32.6 percent of total imports.

Imports from Uzbekistan touched 51,000 tons, an increase of 26.7 percent from the previous month, accounting for 15.9 percent; imports from Benin and Burkina Faso fetched 62,000 tons, accounting for 1.9 percent; imports from other countries were less than 1.5 percent in share.

In April, the difference among average prices of importing countries was small, among the top three countries, prices from two countries; US and Australia fell, but prices of cotton imported from India grew marginally.

Average import price from the US fell to US $1,797 per ton in April, down 1.6 percent from March; Indian price averaged at $1,715 per ton, up 2.8 percent from March; the highest price stood at $1,892 per ton from Australia, down 4.1 percent from March and Uzbek cotton stood at $1,710 per ton, basically the same with the previous month.
