Aficionados of Turkmen carpets gather in Ashgabat

On the last Sunday of May, Turkmenistan marked Turkmen Carpet Day as a national holiday and also inaugurated the 10th International Conference of the World Society of Connoisseurs of Turkmen Carpet in the country's capital city, Ashgabat.
Scientists, collectors, artists, art historians and delegates and leaders of key foreign firms from Iran, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Pakistan, Afghanistan, France and other countries are participating in the conference.
Key topics to be discussed during the conference include birth and development of Turkmen carpet weaving, hunting archaic samples, studying history of Turkmen carpet and promoting the finest national traditions of carpet manufacturing.
Residents and foreign visitors visiting the conference in Ashgabat city enjoyed musical performances, conventional folk games and customs organised through out the city.
The best craftsmen of Turkmenistan's carpet industry were also awarded at Ashgabat's park, Altyn Asyr, followed by a concert performed by the masters of performing Arts from Turkmenistan.
Simultaneously, the special conventional global exhibition, Turkmen carpet – the melody of our soul, was also conducted in Ashgabat. The exhibition displays the achievements and success stories of the carpet industry of the country.
