While the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) earned proceeds of Rs 70 million last year, the turnover recorded then was Rs 660 million, informed, Deputy Commissioner, Darpan Jain, while addressing an audience post the launch of an exhibition of Mysore silk sarees organised by KSIC at Dharwad.

Mysore silk sarees are of superior quality and that these were available in various designs was also mentioned by Jain during his speech. More so, he also suggested that, Dharwad-based artisans should embellish the Mysore silk sarees, so as to further add to the garment's charisma.

If the suggestion is duly implemented then the same will generate a number of employment opportunities for the local people of Dharwad, averred Jain.

While Mysore silk sarees replicate the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka, at the same time they have also created a different stand for themselves in the local tradition, informed ZP CEO, C Shikha. Further more, she has also requested KSIC to launch retail outlets in Dharwad-Hubli and operate them even on Sundays, so as to ease accessibility of the working lot.

KSIC Managing Director Philominaraju said that, they are soon to launch retail outlets at key places in the city. He also stated that, now they do offer shirts and dhotis for men in varied designs.
